It’s new Dancing with the Stars (Season 14) and I’m thrilled! Not only does it mean it’s the beginning of spring, it means I get to blog about one of my favorite shows.
Anna Trebunskaya and Jack Wagner, former soap star from General Hospital and Melrose Place
Jack seems like a great spirit with great charm. Unfortunately, his dancing needs a lot of work. Sorry Jack. The judges were kinder than I am…well, no, Len was as harsh as I expected. To my surprise, Jack captured two 8’s.
Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Melissa Gilbert, played Laura Ingalls on Little House on the Prairie TV Series
Maks slipped and Melissa was clearly uncomfortable. It could be me but she seemed to be struggling. To my surprise, Len came to her rescue and provided strong support and soft criticism…but not the score. Bad news is Melissa has a 20; good news is, she’s not the only one…and no one wants to see Maks leave the dance floor so soon.
Peta Murgatroyd and Donald Driver, Receiver for the Green Bay Packers
Can I just tell you how much fun this dancing couple is?! If Donald makes it, he will be a lot of fun to watch. Tonight, though, it’s clear Peta needs to work on Donald’s technique. Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see if Peta will be able to find more material for her costumes….holy mackanoly! He scored the same 21 as Maria & Derek. Not sure I agree with that…but what do I know. I’m sitting in my jammies and flip-flops and can barely walk to the bathroom without tripping!
Cheryl Burke and William Levy, Actor known best for his appearance in Jennifer Lopez’ “I’m Into You” video
I’m not sure who was drooling more…Carrie Ann or Bruno. Even Len seemed to curl his lips into a Grinch-like smile. Clearly, Will can dance. He has a sultry body with fantastic, masculine arms….and his dancing was certainly appealing, too.
Val Chermkovskiy and Sherri Shepard, Host on The View and Tracy Jordan’s wife on 30 Rock
Sherri is going to have to settle down if she expects to get halfway through the contest. She is clearly having fun…her and “the girls”. I thought Gavin had the comment of the night (look up “stiff”). Sherri had me laughing (obnoxiously) out loud…leaving “a boob on the floor” was hysterical. Her fun is so contagious. Val seems to be having fun with her…I hope he maintains his composure.
Mark Ballas and Katherine Jenkins, Opera Singer
Katherine Jenkins is so elegant, so graceful…beautiful. She seems so lovely and so humble in her acceptance of the judges’ feedback. Mark Ballas lead her around the ballroom so delightfully. Lovely. I’m hoping Katherine does great things on DWTS. This team walked away with the first 9’s of the season….Len keeping it grounded with an 8.
Karina Smirnoff and Gavin Degraw, recording artist whose big hit is “I Don’t Wanna Be”
Our boys love Gavin’s songs. They weren’t so sure he could pull of the dancing. He is clearly working very hard to make it work. I feel for him. He enjoyed the completion of his first dance….but the judges were not looking entertained. Gavin has a great sense of humor. He took the criticism well.
Tony Dovlani and Martina Navritalova, Tennis Legend
I think it takes a lot of courage for Martina to take the floor in this competition. She admittedly is not feminine and working so far out of her comfort zone. Unlike other non-feminine athletes who have taken to the DWTS dance floor (uh-hum…Hope Solo), she has a lovely personality. What her performance lacked in technical skill, it was filled with great heart and soul. Good for her!
Chelsea Hightower and Roshon Fegan, Disney Channel Star
Roshon is young, fluid and so darn cute. I hope he’s not the ringer that rumors purport him to be. He will be a lot of fun to watch. I think the judges will be hard on him because of his dance-ability. Nope. Wrong. Bruno loves him. Carrie Ann loves him. Len is the equalizer. Len, predictably, did not love the hip-hop nature of the performance. I’m thinkin’, unless there is a huge upset, this kid will surely be in the top 3…his “generation” will be sure to vote and vote often.
Derek Hough and Maria Menounos, TV Host
Of course, Maria has a killer body. Really…she has a beautiful figure…and Derek knows how to move it…I mean, teach her to move it. For a 1st dance, Maria and Derek performed nicely. They are an attractive couple with a lot of potential…dancing potential…what were you thinking?!
Kym Johnson and Jaleel White, known for playing Steve Urkel on Family Matters
Geeky boy from Family Matters is not here…the striking dancing man, however, is in the ballroom. Bruno captured it…saying that Jaleel was reminiscent of the great Gregory Hines was such a true statement and wonderful compliment. Gorgeous! Jaleel tied with Katherine with two 9’s and an 8 (from Len).
Tristan McManus and Gladys Knight, music legend
Ms. Knight is a delight. I thought she was a little (a lot) off on her steps but she was ever the entertainer. She got the standing “O” because she is all class and style. It’s clear she is enjoying the fun of it all. I think her scores reflected the enthusiasm she brought to the dance floor.
Already, this season is shaping up to be a very tough competition. There’s no drama….just talent. Everyone is leaving it on the dance floor. Fantastic viewing pleasure. I am so excited for this season.
If you are watching, don’t forget to vote. I suspect that not voting will be the difference between the entertainers staying and the skilled dancers going.
Yay! Dancing with the Stars is back!
